The description forgot to mention the lack of a back-rest on the chair which was also not an accident. It was deliberately removed so that the student would not lean backwards and relax when he ought to be studying.
Education is a big deal where I come from. And my native region in India has a much higher literacy rate than the national average. We are often made fun of for the importance our families have always given to education. The people who make fun of us do not realize that being educated is a more of a cultural thing for us. It is a part of life. It is a part of who we are as individuals. It is our ticket to a place of some respect in society.
